The “Year of the Rabbit” will be celebrated in Monterey Park over the weekend of January 29 & 30, 2011 with a return to the downtown business district along Garvey Avenue between Garfield and Nicholson Avenues. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

This festival has become one of the biggest Chinese New Year events in southern California.

Past Lunar New Year events in Monterey Park have drawn crowds estimated at 50,000 to 100,000 visitors coming from all over the Southern California area. This year’s event is scheduled to be the first Chinese New Year celebration presented in the greater Los Angeles Area.
