ALHAMBRA HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND GOLD MINING

The Alhambra Historical Society’s program meeting on Wednesday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. will feature Dr. Lorraine A. Blair talking about Dr. Rose Burcham, a gold miner who lived in Alhambra. The meeting will be held at the Masonic Center, 9 West Woodward, corner of First Street, in Alhambra.

The theme for the evening is “Notable Names in Alhambra” and there will be displays of other notables. Dr. Rose Burcham was one of the first women in Randsburg, California, in the Ridgecrest area, where she became a miner and one-sixth owner of the great Yellow Aster Mining and Milling Company in the late 1800s. Dr. Burcham lived in Alhambra for more than twenty years on South Almansor.

Come and hear about this interesting woman. The meeting is free and open to everyone, refreshments will be served, and parking is available in the lot and on the street.
