Paul Talbot Named City Manager in Monterey Park

Paul Talbot was appointed City Manager by the Monterey Park City Council at its November 22, 2010 Council meeting. He was also named Executive Director of the Monterey Park Redevelopment Agency. Mr. Talbot is a former elected official, serving as 3-term Mayor and Councilman in the neighboring city of Alhambra from 1994-2006. Talbot has had a variety of successful business enterprises and possesses a distinguished record of community service throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

Monterey Park is situated in the San Gabriel Valley ten miles from downtown Los Angeles, with a population of 65,000. Like other San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles metropolitan-area municipalities, Monterey Park faces the effects of a regional economic downturn, state-funding challenges and changing cultural and socio-demographic characteristics. In particular, the City is focused on attracting and retaining quality businesses that will provide jobs and enhance the City’s tax base.

Former Mayor and current Monterey Park Councilman Frank Venti stated, “We are very fortunate to attract Paul Talbot to Monterey Park. We’ve long admired his accomplishments in parc aquatique gonflable Alhambra and we’ve partnered with him on many public and private sector issues in the past.” Venti added, “This is an important, strategic time for Monterey Park and we’re confident Paul’s business, financial and government acumen will help us achieve our financial and quality of life objectives.”

In speaking about his goals as City Manager, Mr. Talbot commented, “I’ve lived in and loved the San Gabriel Valley all my life. Monterey Park is a wonderful community with great pride of ownership from its residents, outstanding schools, dedicated public employees, unparalleled diversity and a terrific place to raise your family. My immediate goals are to help the City Council balance the budget, recruit several new Department heads, stimulate economic development, and increase our organizational effectiveness and transparency.”

Talbot and his wife Regina run a successful State Farm insurance Agency in the San Gabriel Valley and he is a founding partner of Gateway Consultants, which facilitates development throughout the Valley, including the planned NFL Stadium site in City of Industry, shopping centers, office projects and senior housing facilities. He was also a founding director of California General Bank in Pasadena. Talbot will be ending his relationship with Gateway Consultants, and numerous Boards as to avoid any potential conflict of interest.

Talbot has served on the Governing Boards of SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments) and the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership. He has also been very active with the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Independent Cities Association, League of Cities and the California Contract Cities Association.

As a community leader, Talbot has served on the Board of Directors of: Chamber of Commerce, Alhambra Educational Foundation, Alhambra Hospital Medical Center and Industry Education Council. He was the co-founder of the San Gabriel Valley Lunar New Year celebration.

Talbot, age 49, is a graduate of Alhambra High School and the UCLA School of Economics. He and his wife, Regina, are proud parents of three sons; two attend college and one attends Mark Keppel High School.
