Assemblymember Mike Fong Appointed Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee
On December 22, Speaker Anthony Rendon appointed Assemblymember Mike Fong (D-Alhambra) Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee. “I am honored to be appointed Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and grateful to Speaker Rendon for his trust. As a former trustee of the Los Angeles Community College District and a graduate of the UC and the CSU, I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues and our higher education partners to increase student access to higher education and success for all our students,” said Assemblymember Mike Fong.
Prior to his election to the 49th Assembly District in February, Assemblymember Mike Fong served as a Trustee of the Los Angeles Community College District. He pushed forward policies that increased student success, improved educational access and quality, and expanded workforce education and high-growth sector training programs at the nine community colleges serving over 250,000 students across Los Angeles and surrounding cities.
A product of Los Angeles County, Assemblymember Mike Fong graduated from California State University at Northridge with a Master of Public Administration in Public Sector Management & Leadership and from the University of California at Los Angeles with a B.S. in Psychobiology and a minor in Education.
Assemblymember Mike Fong represents the 49th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, South Pasadena and Temple City, and the unincorporated areas of Pasadena and San Gabriel. He serves as the Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and the Assembly Vice Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.
