Monterey Park Residents Meet Our Newly Elected Officials
City Hall was decorated for Christmas before our December 7th Council Meeting.
Mayor Henry Lo opened the meeting to certify the November 8th city election results. The Chamber was full to capacity.
Members of the Monterey Park Police Department presented our colors as we said our Pledge of Allegiance.
The current City Councilmembers approved the election results.
Vince Chang, the outgoing City Clerk thanked the people of Monterey Park for allowing him to serve the city for the last 10 years. He thanked all of us for making Monterey Park a wonderful city. He thanked Cindy and Helena for working with him in the clerk’s office. He said that they run the city. He also thanked all of the former city clerk’s employees. They all work for the city.
They serve the residents of Monterey Park. He will miss you all. He thanked Dave Barron for his vision to make the office better. The office guides democracy. The people could get all of the city’s records. He is proud to have served. He is still involved with the city and will make the city better for all. He thanked all of the people who support him. He thanked Dora Leung for her love and support. She is President of the Greater Chamber of Commerce in Monterey Park. He thanked the City Council and city staff for their support. He congratulated the incoming elected officials.

Joseph Leon, the outgoing City Treasurer said it has been his pleasure to serve the city since 2007. It was a wonderful experience to serve our city. He thanked all of the people who supported him. He thanked the city staff and the past city staff. He thanked the past and present elected officials. He thanked his wife, his daughters and his family for their love and support as he served the community. He thanked the residents for their support. We are family. Monterey Park is very special. He kept our city funds safe as the money belongs to the Monterey Park residents. He thanked all of the residents for their support. Monterey Park is a great city.

Peter Chan thanked all of the residents of Monterey Park. He served the city since 2013. He served the last 10 years taking care of the city. He has rotated to Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and as a Councilmember. He enjoyed servicing Monterey Park. He did his best. He thanked the residents for allowing him to serve our city. He thanked all of the past Councilmembers since 1916. We will be going strong with the newly elected officials. They will do a good job to make the city great. He thanked the city staff for helping him to move the city forward. We are the 3rd best city to live in per Money Magazine. We must continue to move the city forward. We will continue to work on all of the city’s problems. He thanked his wife, Jenny for her love and support. Elected officials have the burden to share on all of the issues. We are all different and will work out the issues. We compromise. He thanked all of the residents and staff for their assistance.
Hans Liang said he answered the challenge 10 years ago when he and Peter were elected at the same time. He thanked all of the newly elected officials for their success. He thanked all of the staff for their support. He is grateful for their friendships in Monterey Park. He is grateful for Ron Bow’s and Karl Berger’s support. We went through it together. He thanked former City Manager Paul Talbot for his advice. He thanked his Mom, Dad and Loni for their love and support. He thanked Fred Sornoso his friendship and humor. I miss him. He thanked all of the department heads for their assistance. He thanked all of people. He thanked OC and Nancy Arcuri for their service. He said it is a full moon on December 8th. He thanked all of the Councilmembers both past and present. We are a family. Happy holidays!
Yvonne Yiu thanked Hans for being her big brother on the Commission. He is dedicated with pride and passion. She loves Loni, his wife.

County Assessor Jeff Prang thanked Hans and Peter for their help when he was elected into office. He thanked Hans, Peter, Joseph and Vince for their longtime service to Monterey Park.
Bob Gin from the Alhambra School Board thanked Hans and Peter for their involvement with the schools. The city and the school districts work together for our children. He presented them with proclamations of appreciation.
Troy Grant from the Monterey Park Police Officers Association thanked Peter and Hans for their support. He presented them with proclamations of appreciation.
Cindy Wu from the Chinese Elected Officials Organization thanked Peter and Hans for their support.
Members of the Greater Chamber of Commerce in Monterey Park thanked Peter, Hans, Vince and Joseph for their longtime service to Monterey Park with gifts.
Hans, Peter, Vince and Joseph received special thank you from Alhambra Mayor Jeff Maloney via Zoom since he was unable to attend the meeting.
Hans, Peter, Vince and Joseph received proclamations of appreciation from State Senator Susan Rubio.

Michelle Yee the newly elected City Clerk spoke from home on Zoom. She thanked the voters of electing her as city clerk. She will be sworn into office at the December 21st meeting.

Vinh Ngo was sworn into office by Mike Eng. They were surrounded by family members and many of the good people who mentored him. They posed for group pictures in honor of this special event.
Mayor Henry Lo, Mayor Pro Tem Jose Sanchez, Councilmember Thomas Wong, Councilmember Vinh Ngo and Councilmember Yvonne Yiu were all seated.
City Clerk Michelle Yee said she will make her remarks at the next meeting and will introduce her daughter to the residents.
City Treasurer Amy Lee said it is an honor to be here tonight. She thanked her family for their support. She will keep our funds save.
Councilmember Vinh Ngo said our city motto is Pride in the Past and Faith in the Future. In 1970 he spoke as a student to the Council. He told his fellow employees he wants serve the residents. He will serve all of us. He thanked his longtime friends in Monterey Park who serve the community. It is a new journey. He thanked his supporters . He is committed to serve our community. It will be safer.
Councilmember Thomas Wong thanked his partner and his parents for helping him. He thanked his brothers and Betty Yee for their helping him to become a public servant. It is special for him as he was born in Garfield Hospital. He enjoys the local parks. He has his memories. He serves on the San Gabriel Valley Water Board. He is very happy to serve Monterey Park. He is full of pride to serve Monterey Park. We can build a brighter future. He is looking forward to be working together.
Mayor Pro Tem Jose Sanchez thanked the people for voting him into office. He teacher Civics at Alhambra High School for the last 17 years. He is proud of the family of Monterey Park. He has great pride to serve Monterey Park. He thanked his wife and children for their love and support. He thanked all of the people in Monterey Park. We should be a community to celebrate our race, our ethnicity and our faith. We should be a community to help all of us. Let us work together as a community. He asked God’s blessing on all of us.

Yvonne Yiu said they are back to serving in the Council Chambers. She is so excited to see all of the new members. We will all work together.
