Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Fundraiser
Bob Gin. President of the Library Foundation welcomed 330 guests to this fundraiser honoring Councilmember Peter Chan and Councilmember Hans Liang on October 28th at the Luminarias Restaurant in Monterey Park. Peter and Hans donated over $20,000 to purchase new library furniture. We will take any donations for the library.
He thanked members of the Foundation and Board for putting on this special event.
Mike Eng was the Master of Ceremonies. He welcomed everyone to this special event.
Vinh Ngo, President of the Garvey School Board led our Flag Salute.
Mike Eng introduced several elected officials and special guests that included Henry Lo, Yvonne Yiu, Vince Chang, Lily Lee Chen, David Lau, Sophie Wong, Arthur Fong, Judy Chu, Thomas Wong and Vinh Ngo from Monterey Park. Jeff Maloney, Adele Andrade-Stadler, Sasha Renee Perez and Ross Maza from Alhambra. Polly Low and Sean Dang from Rosemead. Tony Ding from Rosemead. Mike Fong, Jeff Prang, Ed Chen and many more.
He introduced staff members that included Ron Bow, Inez Alvarez, Scott Wiese, Matt Hallock, Karl Berger, Paul Talbot and Diana Garcia.
He joked that all donations are accepted. This is a great event with an Open Mike.
Assemblymember Mike Fong thanked Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their 10 years of dedication to Monterey Park. He met them several years ago. In 2018 they held the Grand Opening for the Market Place. He said that Monterey Park was rated as the 3rd Best Place to live in the USA in 2013 by Money Magazine. He thanked Peter and Hans for their service. They have a bright future ahead of them. Hans is a labor leader. Hans is an imposter. He is a rapper. Peter is very complicated too. Peter will only settle for 1st place. Peter loves soccer. He thanked Jenny Chan and Loni Liang for their service to the community.

Congressmember Judy Chu said she is here to honor Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their leadership. The city has seen progress. She met Hans many years ago. He is a Probation Officer who helps our youth. He is President of his union. He is active in Monterey Park. It was no surprise that he was elected to the Monterey Park City Council. He helped us get the Market Place. Monterey Park is so lucky to have his service. Peter is her 30-year neighbor. He is devoted to Monterey Park. He raised funds for the library with Measure C. He also raised more than $600,000 for the new library. He was honored as the Library Board Trustee of the year. He tries to find a way to help solve Monterey Park’s problems. They helped this city to develop more business like the Market Place and Courtyard by Marriott. She thanked them for their service to our community.

Jeff Prong said it was his honor to be here tonight to honor Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their service to the community. He has served in politics for 18 years on the West Los Angeles City Council and now 8 years as our tax assessor. He is sorry to see them leave. Peter and Hans served the city well. They are public servants who make the city better. They are great leaders. He thanked them for their service.

Doctor Alberto Roman from East Los Angeles College said he is honored to be here tonight . East L A and Monterey Park are connected to further our education system. East L A will soon be an International Institute. He thanks Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their assistance on this matter.

Cindy Wu from the Chinese Elected Officials Group that was founded in 1997 with well over 100 elected officials. Hans Liang and Peter Chan stand with them. They are opened to all suggestions from anyone.
Commander Arthur Fong from Chinese American Military Services thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their support of the military members in Monterey Park.
Arthur Fong presented Peter Chan with a list of our military ranks since he could not remember all of the ranks and Hans Lang with a military metal as well as proclamations.
Paul Liang and Sho Tay from Arcadia said that Hans Liang and Peter Chan are true leaders who have served their community. Elected officials give up spending time with their families to served the people. They thanked Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their longtime service to our community.
Diana Garcia, Head Librarian of our city library said it is wonderful to be here tonight after 3 long years without a fundraiser. Hans Liang and Peter Chan served our city well. They both support our library. The proceeds from tonight will be donated to our library. They will continue to support our library.

Polly Low from Rosemead said Peter Chan can speak Cantonese but he is still learning Mandarin. She thanked Peter for a great job in Monterey Park. She called Hans Liang a good friend and a wonderful public servant. We will miss you.

John Wong from the Chinese American Citizens Alliance thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their support. They were able to secure several Gold Medals for Chinese American veterans.

Samuel Kang from Duarte said Peter Chan and Hans Liang were elected into office at the same time as he was. They have been great leaders. He has learned so much from them. He thanked them for their service to our community.

Adele Andrade-Stadler from Alhambra said she was raised in Monterey Park. It is never far from her heart. She thanked Hans Liang for being a breath of fresh air. He moved to Monterey Park for a good deal. She thanked Peter Chan for attending all of those Metro meetings with her.
She thanks Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their longtime service to our community.
Sasha Renee Perez from Alhambra thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their leadership.
Guido Rivera, President of the Monterey Park Democratic Club thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their service to our city. He loves Peter and Hans. He was also seeking more members to join their club.
Mayor Henry Lo said it is an honor to thank Hans Liang and Peter Chan for their leadership. They moved the city forward. They also helped the new Councilmembers to learn their jobs.
Andy Yam from Monterey Park said he reached out to them 6 years ago. He thinks of them as close friends. He served on the Library Board. He thanked them for their service to our city.
Jose Sanchez said he is a teacher at Alhambra High School. He thanked Hans Liang and Peter Chan for having this fundraiser for our library. He thanked them for their longtime service to our city.
City Clerk Vince Chang thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for attending all of our Council Meetings. It has been a pleasure working with you.
Jason Dhing said that he carried several books out of the library for his children over the years. Later he served on the Library Board of Trustees. He thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their generous donations to the library. It is our corner stone for the city.
Karl Berger said he came to the library event. Hans Liang and Peter Chan are termed out. He thanked them for their service.
Ron Bow said he talked to Peter Chan every day. He thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for serving our city.
Theresa Amador served as City Clerk many years ago. She said that Hans Liang was her neighbor. She thanked Peter Chan and Hans Liang for their many years of service to our city.
Members of the Greater Chamber of Monterey Park presented Peter Chan and Hans Liang with silver goblets for their many years of service.
Peter Chan thanked everyone for his 10 years of service. It was worth it. He loved the job. It is time for him to go. Monterey Park was established in 1916 and is 106 years old. We had good times and bad times. It is an ongoing experience on the job. The city has grown over the years. Because of all the people and staff makes Monterey Park a diverse city. He thanked all of the former mayors and council members for making our job easier. He thanked all of the residents. We respect each other. We do what is best for the city. He will still live in the city. He moved in town in 1974 and enjoys our city every day.
Peter Chan introduced his family members to the guests and posed for a family picture in honor of the special event.
Hans Liang thanked the guests for coming our tonight to celebrate his 10 years on council. He never intended to be a politician. 15 years ago, he was president of his union. He met Judy Chu at Starbucks and spoke to her about speaking at their event. He decided to join in politics. He was 44 years old when he was elected to serve on our City Council. After he was elected, he met more people and formed friendships.
Hans Liang said he is grateful to his family and friends. He thanked then, his union brother and sister. It was a wonderful opportunity to serve Monterey Park. Hans Liang thanked all of the residents. They posed for a family picture in honor of this special event.
