The City of Monterey Park invites community members to express condolences for the death of Officer Gardiel Solorio who was murdered while off duty in the City of Downey on Monday, August 8, 2022.
A memorial honoring Officer Solorio has been placed in front of the Monterey Park City Hall at 320 W. Newmark Avenue. Community members are invited to visit the site to grieve and mourn the tragic loss of Officer Solorio. Chief Kelly Gordon stated, “today and always, we remember Officer Solorio, and we all knew from the moment we met him that he had a heart for service and was going to be a great police officer.”
The Monterey Park Police Department is working closely with the Solorio family during this most difficult time. The Solorio family has expressed sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community, staff and City Council of Monterey Park, but have asked for privacy to grieve this sudden and heartbreaking loss while they work through the planning of service arrangements.
Additionally, there is a fundraising site that has been established to help support the Solorio family. If you would like to contribute by making a monetary donation, please visit https://porac.org/fundraiser/monterey-park-fallen-police-officer/.
