Lyons Named All-American
Rosemead — Southern California Road Runner (SCRR) and Pasadena City College cross-country and track freshman Elizabeth Lyons has earned All-American honors in the 3000 meters race walk from National Elite Youth Ranking System.
Lyons, a graduate of Rosemead High School, also received Honor Roll for the 2000 meters steeplechase and 3000 meters run. The ranking system uses results from races from Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), USA Track and Field and “open” local, regional and national championship events.
This was the first year she learned and competed in the race walk, which uses time for placing with possibility of disqualification for not using proper form.
In June 2010, competing for only the third time in the race walk, she won her age group race gold medal at the USA Track and Field Youth Outdoor National Championships in Lisle, Ill. (near Chicago), and also earned a seventh place medal in the steeplechase to help SCRR finish tied for ninth place nationally against many larger teams.
In July 2010, Lyons earned a fifth place medal in the race walk with no deductions for form at USA Track and Field Junior Olympics National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
SCRR Head Coach Dr. Mike Leong taught her the race walk a few months ago and also has coached several other national champion individuals and teams.
