AWARD-WINNING ACTRESS CICI LAU TO DISCUSS “TENACITY OF AN ACTOR” AND IMMEDIATE PAST NFBPWC PRESIDENT SANDY THOMPSON TO DISCUSS “BUSINESS ETIQUETTE” AT THE SIERRA MAR DISTRICT BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S WINTER CONFERENCE

Award-winning Actress Cici Lau will talk on the “Tenacity of an Actor,” and immediate Past National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club President Sandy Thompson will give a presentation on “Business Etiquette” at the Winter Conference of the Sierra Mar District Business and Professional Women on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2009 S. Garfield, Monterey Park. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting will start at 9:00 a.m. Lau will be speaking about 10:10 a.m. and Thompson about 11:00 a.m. The conference and luncheon is open to all interested people. Registration is required in advance. There is no registration cost for guests, but the cost of the box lunch is $10. Lau is a veteran stage, TV, movie, and commercial actress with more than 30 years experience and the Winner of 63rd Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress (2021), which is the Mexican Academy Award. During 2021 she portrayed several challenging characters in two major studio movies and two TV pilots. The projects should be coming out in 2022. Lau also ventured into being an executive producer and played the role of Sgt Tsu in the Lifetime Movie, “Missing Twins,” a drama and thriller which premiered on December 17, 2021 on Lifetime on Demand. She has appeared in movies alongside several of the most popular Hollywood stars including James Marsden “HOP,” Jaime Chung “Burning Palms,” Keanu Reeves “Constantine” and Reese Witherspoon “Legally Blonde.” Some of her recent TV credits are “Shameless,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Better Things,” “Arrested Development,” “Fear of the Walking Dead,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” See Cici Lau’s acting credits at http://imdb.to/2rv85iD.
Lau has been active in theater initiatives that bring the arts to non-traditional and underserved populations of all ages, but especially to those from both sides of life’s spectrum—young people, preschoolers and seniors. To continue the momentum and give back to the community, she also produced, directed and acted in a number of one-act plays that toured public schools, community halls, museums, senior day care centers in Alhambra, El Monte and Malibu as well as public libraries: including the Central Library in downtown Los Angeles and other libraries in Chinatown, San Gabriel, Rosemead, West Covina, East Los Angeles, Rowland Heights, Wilshire and Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. Lau played lead roles in several stage productions namely “Bahala Na,” “The Joy Luck Club,” “Gumsimou,” “The Gingerbread Lady,” “Primary English Class,” “Mama from China,” “Songs of Harmony,” “View from the Bridge” and “Twelve Angry Women.”

Lau is married to David Lau, three-term former Mayor of City of Monterey Park.
The State Representative at the meeting will be Sandy Thompson. She will be doing a presentation on “Business Etiquette.” Thompson continues to serve on the Board of NFBPWC and is Past President of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women (CFBPW). She is a native Californian. She graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Social Science and a MA in Special Education. She was employed by Amtrak for 35 years where she held a variety of positions including being a Train Manger responsible for the on board services of three trains, Manager of Union Station in Los Angeles and Director of Operations Management dealing with finances. She was a presenter at the NFBPWC North America-Caribbean Regional Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Hollywood BPW honored Sandy with its Susan B. Anthony Award.
Sierra Mar District is based in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys and is part of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women (CFBPW).  The organization is a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (NFBPWC) and BPW International. BPW has been advocates for women’s issues for more than 102 years.
The mission of the Sierra Mar District of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women (CFBPW) is “to promote and support equity for working women in all phases of their lives and to promote personal empowerment and professional development.” Our objectives are “to advocate on state and national legislative issues of importance to women, to promote personal and professional development for women 
and to foster connections among women to promote BPW and its members.” Membership is open to both men and women who support this mission and these objectives.
