MONTEREY PARK POLICE CHIEF KELLY GORDON TO TALK TO EAST LOS ANGELES-MONTEBELLO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN ABOUT THE CHANGING ROLES OF WOMEN AS POLICE OFFICERS
Kelly Gordon, Monterey Park Police Chief, will make a presentation entitled “The Changing Roles of Women As Police Officers” at the November 17th meeting of the East Los Angeles-Montebello BPW at Marie Callender’s, Library, 220 S. Atlantic Blvd., Monterey Park (Networking starts at 4:30 p.m. with dinner/meeting by 5:00 p.m.). Attendees will be able to order of the menu. The program and dinner is open to all interested people. Gordon began her law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Police Department in
January 1996. She then left the Los Angeles Police Department in 2000 for the Montebello Police Department. She progressed through the ranks at Montebello Police Department working various assignments including Patrol, Investigations, Training and Personnel, and Administration. In January of 2017 the Monterey Park Police Department hired her as a Captain. She most recently oversaw the Operations Division, was named Interim Police Chief in February of 2020 and Monterey Park Police Chief March 31, 2020. She also worked with FEMA Urban Search and Rescue for more than 20 years and is part of the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. She was a Canine Disaster Search Specialist and her deployments included the World Trade Center after 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Rita. Gordon is the Treasurer of the San Gabriel Valley Chiefs Association, member of the California Police Chiefs Association Training Committee, and the California Police Chiefs Association representative on the League of Cities’ Housing, Community and Economic Development Policy Committee.
Gordon has a Bachelor’s Degree from Cal Poly University, Pomona and a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. She was the recipient of the 2013 Assembly Member 49th District Women’s History Month Leadership Award and is the recipient of the Montebello Police Department’s Medal of Merit and Meritorious Service Awards. In 2019 she graduated with the FBI National Academy Class 277.
