Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Offers Dementia/Alzheimer’s Kits for Caregivers and Individuals

Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is now lending interactive kits to provide the community with resources to take an active role in engaging loved ones, friends and elders experiencing dementia/Alzheimer’s. These kits aim to increase awareness about the disease, provide activities to manage symptoms and provide meaningful interactions between caregivers and individuals with dementia/Alzheimer’s disease.

Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is lending several kits focusing on the various stages of dementia/Alzheimer’s. Kits include consumer pamphlets, a list of educational resources about the disease and items such as:

  • Books

  • Conversation cards

  • Fidget toys

  • Art activities

  • Puzzles

  • Games

  • Music

  • DVDs.

In addition to the activity kits, a caregiver kit that provides books and other information focusing on caring for a loved one with dementia/Alzheimer’s is also available. To borrow a kit, patrons must have a valid library card and sign a user agreement. To place a hold on a kit, or for more information, call the library at 626-307-1368 or visit https://www.montereypark.ca.gov/1386/DementiaAlzheimers-Kits.

Kits are supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act and the 2020 Mental Health Initiative, administered in California by the State Librarian.
