LA County Extends “Safer at Home” Order; MPK Tennis and Pickleball Courts Reopen May 16

Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update: LA County Extends “Safer at Home” Order; Monterey Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts Reopen May 16 with Restrictions

On May 15 the LA County Department of Public Health has extended the “Safer at Home” Order and low-risk businesses, select recreational amenities and beaches can reopen. All businesses that are permitted to open (bookstores, clothing stores, florists, music stores, sporting goods stores, toy stores and car dealership showrooms) under the revised health order must practice physical distancing and adhere to infection control guidelines. Please note that specific higher-risk businesses remain closed.

As a reminder, the COVID-19 pandemic is not over and public/private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited. According to the LA County Public Health Department, “the best community and individual defense against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home, and wear a face covering when out in the public procuring or providing essential services.” The City of Monterey Park urges residents to continue to abide by the Safer at Home order and to only leave home for essential trips as we continue on the road to recovery.

On May 14 the City of Monterey Park is in communication with Caltrans regarding local highway roadwork. According to a Caltrans news release

Caltrans has scheduled a series of 55-hour lane closures on the eastbound and westbound Pomona Freeway (SR-60) between the Long Beach (I-710) and San Gabriel River (I-605) freeways beginning in Summer 2020. The closures are necessary to perform pavement rehabilitation work that will extend the life of the existing lanes by a minimum of 40 years and improve ride quality.

Currently, construction is ongoing Monday through Saturday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with an enforced speed limit of 50 mph throughout the work zone. All 55-hour lane closures will be limited to Friday through Monday, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., to minimize traffic impacts.

Residents and local businesses located near the freeway may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities. Detour signs will be posted. Although NOT a full freeway closure, motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes. Motorists can find real time traffic information at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.

Local area work will occur on the following dates and times:

Friday, May 15 at 10 p.m. – Monday, May 18, at 5 a.m.
Westbound SR-60 Median shoulder paving between Findlay Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard.

Friday, May 29 at 10 p.m. – Monday, June 1, at 5 a.m.

Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update: The City of Monterey Park Confirms Project Roomkey at Two Locations

May 8, 2020 – The City of Monterey Park is in communication with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and is closely monitoring Project Roomkey at two locations in the City.

Project Roomkey is a collaborative effort by the State, LA County, and LAHSA to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness. It provides a way for people who don’t have a home to stay safe inside to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Project Roomkey seeks temporary housing for people who are experiencing homelessness and have shown no symptoms of the illness. The two locations in the City are the Lincoln Plaza Hotel, 123 S. Lincoln Avenue and Garvey Inn, 1040 E. Garvey Avenue. These sites do not accept walk-in or walk-up clients. Prior to arrival, individuals are pre-screened and selected by a homeless services provider then transported to their assigned location. The sites are not being used to quarantine individuals or treat Covid-19 patients, but provide a safe and separate place for vulnerable homeless individuals that are elderly or have underlying health conditions to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The safety and security of the Monterey Park community is the City’s highest priority during this COVID-19 pandemic and the City will continue to engage closely with LA County representatives to stay informed about Project Roomkey.

Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update: City of Monterey Park Announces State Plan to Modify the Safer at Home Order; and Street Sweeping Parking Enforcement to Resume May 18

On April 28 the City of Monterey Park continues to follow the lead of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in implementing protocols to protect the health and safety of everyone in public spaces and in providing accurate and timely updates to the community.

Governor Newsom announced plans to modify the Safer at Home order. Modifications will happen in four stages based on protecting the health and safety of the public and scientific data. Modifications to the Safer at Home order will depend on each of us and our continued efforts to stay home and save lives.

According to the LA County Public Health Department, “The best community and individual defense against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home, and wear a face covering when out in the public procuring or providing essential services.” The City of Monterey Park urges residents to continue to abide by the Safer at Home order and to only leave home for essential trips to seek medical care or to obtain vital necessities.

Street Sweeping Parking Enforcement Resumes May 18, 2020

Due to an increase of debris and trash along curbs, street sweeping parking enforcement will resume on Monday, May 18, 2020. As a courtesy, notices will be distributed during the preceding week to remind residents that street sweeping parking will be enforced. For questions or additional information, please contact the Monterey Park Traffic Bureau at 626-307-1240.
