Rosemead School District Announces School Closure through the End of the 2019- 2020 School Year
Rosemead School District Announces School Closure through the End of the 2019- 2020 School Year
Dear Rosemead Families and Staff,
Los Angeles County Office of Education Superintendent Dr. Debra Duardo, has formally recommended the closure of schools for the remainder of the school year. This decision is supported by Governor Newsom and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. Accordingly, I am saddened to announce the closure of all schools in the Rosemead School District through the end of the 2019 – 2020 school year. Our Board of Trustees understands that this decision weighs heavily on our students, parents/guardians, families and staff. While we remained hopeful that the school year could be concluded with students back on campus in May, this decision is necessary for the best interest and safety of our entire community. State and national experts predict that the impact of COVID-19 will continue to grow in April, and become even more serious in May. It is our hope that our collective actions as a community will work to stop the spread of COVID-19. It is very important that everyone understands that although our schools are physically closed, high quality learning and support for our students will continue. Our team of Rosemead educators remain dedicated to our students during this closure period. From the onset of school dismissal, we provided all students review and enrichment opportunities. We have now transitioned to distance learning via online and work at home models. Our distance learning plan will ensure continued growth and prepare students for their next grade level. The physical closing of schools will bring many questions about end of the year activities, summer school, extended year, summer camp, and more. We will be working to address those questions and communicate updates with you over the ensuing weeks, always with the safety of students and staff in mind. Please continue to email your child’s teacher, principal or our district office with any questions you may have. |

I cannot express how proud I am to be part of our amazing Rosemead School District team. Everywhere I look, I see employees stepping in to learn different teaching methodologies, establishing new ways to connect with families, volunteering to distribute technology, and ensuring our students receive nutritious meals, including supper, on a daily basis.
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and District administration, I extend my sincere appreciation to each of you! We will continue to work alongside you until our community is safe, healthy, and well!
Respectfully,
Alex Ruvalcaba
Superintendent of Schools
