Rep. Chu Encourages San Gabriel Valley Residents to Enroll in Health Insurance
On January 11 Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) attended an open enrollment event at ChapCare Lime in Monrovia to encourage eligible residents of the San Gabriel Valley to get healthcare coverage through Covered California. Throughout the day, members of the community were able to make a free enrollment appointments to understand their options and find a plan that works for them. Californians can enroll in insurance coverage through Covered California through January 31st. Rep. Chu issued the following statement:
“At some point, all of us will need health insurance. But without it, you could be facing avoidable health complications or staggering costs. But thanks to the Affordable Care Act, more Americans are able to access the regular care they need and deserve to keep them healthy and avoid financial ruin when they get sick. That is why today’s event to encourage enrollment under Covered California is so important. Currently, there are about 43,000 people in this area without health insurance and I want to ensure all of them have the plan that works for them.
“Despite attempts to undermine and repeal the Affordable Care Act, I want everyone to know that it is still very much the law of the land. That means insurance cannot discriminate against individuals for having a preexisting condition. And it means insurance must cover certain essential health benefits like prescription drugs, emergency room visits, and mental health benefits. Individuals have until January 31 to get covered, and so I am so appreciative to ChapCare for hosting today’s event to ensure as many people as possible get the care they deserve.”
