Monterey Park’s City Council Announced on January 15th
Police Chief Jim Smith announced that he is retiring from the Monterey Park Police Department on February 14th to the day when he first became a Police Explorer 39 years ago. Jim Smith was raised in the Rosemead area and attended a grammar school in the Garvey School District and Mark Keppel High School.
Fire Chief Scott Haberle announced is leaving the Monterey Park Fire Department after 5 years of service. He has been hired as the new Fire Chief of Huntington Beach Fire Department.
Fire Chief Scott Haberle with the efforts of the fire personnel, the City has achieved a Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of a Class 1 by the Insurance Services Offices (ISO). Out of 33,000 fire departments in the United States, Monterey Park is one of 132 agencies that has achieved this designation.
Mayor Pro Tem Mitch Ing, Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian and Councilmember Peter Chan thanked them for the dedication and service to our community. They wished them well on their future endeavors.
Mayor Hans Liang and Councilmember Stephen Lam did not attend this meeting. Mayor Liang had a job related meeting and Councilmember Lam was ill.
