Monterey Park Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire at 623 W. Pomona Blvd.

On November 16, 2019 at 6:22 p.m., the Monterey Park Fire Department along with units from the Montebello Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 623 W. Pomona Blvd. Arriving units encountered a multi-unit apartment building with smoke issuing from the right side of the unit where a first level bedroom was fully involved in fire. The fire was contained to the room of origin within 15 minutes, however, the remaining rooms became inhabitable due to smoke damage.

No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. One pet iguana was rescued from the apartment. The on-site property manager was making arrangements for displaced residents.

Damage is estimated at approximately $50,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Monterey Park Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire at 727 W. Garvey Avenue

On November 23, 2019 at 9:38 a.m., the Monterey Park Fire Department, along with units from Alhambra and Los Angeles County fire departments, responded to a reported structure fire at 727 W. Garvey Avenue. An aggressive fire attack was initiated and the fire was contained to the business of origin. No other businesses were damaged as a result of this fire. The fire was knocked down at 9:50 a.m.

No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. All businesses in the strip mall were initially evacuated and closed, however, were re-opened once the fire was contained and there was no other danger.

Damage is estimated at approximately $75,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
