Residents of Monterey Park Support Mayor Hans Liang and

Councilmember Peter Chan Against the Recall Effort

Councilmember Peter Chan with his wife, Jenny Chan and Mayor Hans Liang and his wife, Lani Liang were joined by 400 residents, friends and family members at their NO RECALL Fundraiser held on September 20th at the Capital Seafood Restaurant in Monterey Park.

Gigi Yam was the Host. She welcomed the guests to this very special event to support Hans Liang and Peter Chan in their fight against the effort to recall them from office by the supporters of Mitch Ing and Teresa Real Sebastian.

She called the recall against Peter Chan and Hans Liang ridiculous. They have done nothing wrong. They serve our city with honor.

Henry Lo led our Flag Salute at the beginning of the event.

Hans Liang welcomed all of guests for coming and offering their support. He and Peter ran separate campaigns to be elected to the City Council. Now they are working together.

Peter Chan thanked the guests for their support to fight this recall effort. It is unfortunate. It is breaking our city apart. With your support their recall effort will fail.

Gigi Yam introduced special guests that included Congressmember Judy Chu, former Mayor Mike Eng, former Mayor David Lau, former Mayor Anthony Wong, former City Clerk Theresa Amador, San Gabriel Mayor Jason Pu, Water District Manager Thomas Wong, Alhambra School Boardmember Bob Gin, Garvey School Boardmember Henry Lo, former Rowland Heights School Boardmember Albert Huang, former Temple City School Boardmember Ed Chen and Los Angeles Community College District Boardmember Mike Fong.

The guests enjoyed a delicious multi-course Chinese dinner, good conversation, made new friends and visited with their neighbors.

Danny So provided the entertainment. He sang several Beatle’s songs in both English and Chinese to the delight of the guests.

Jay Weng entertained the audience with a song in Mandarin and the guests clapped their approval.

Cici Lau dedicated her song “The Greatest Love of All” to Hans and Peter. They are doing a wonderful job for the Monterey Park residents.

Allen Chan entertained the audience with a song in Cantonese and the guests clapped their approval.

Mayor Jason Pu said he was elected to the San Gabriel City Council in 2015 at the same time Peter Chan and Hans Liang were elected to the Monterey Park City Council. He called them true public servants. They are proud of Monterey Park. They all work together for the benefit of the San Gabriel Valley.

Congressmember Judy Chu said she just flew in from Washington, DC to support Hans Liang and Peter Chan. They are hardworking City Councilmembers. They have shaped the budget for the city services, the library and City Hall. Our Market Place is now opened with Costco, Home Depot and many other stores for the benefit our hometown. Peter Chan and Hans Liang deserve to stay in their positions in Monterey Park. The residents elected Hans and Peter. They took the steps to create fair election districts so each resident could have a voice at City Hall.

Don’t sign the recall petitions. It is a shame. It is not the right thing to do. They need 6,000 signatures from Monterey Park registered voters for each of the recall petitions.  Just say NO on the recall. We need to keep Peter Chan and Hans Liang on our City Council.

Hans Liang and Peter Chan were joined by all of the current and former elected officials who support them. They all want Hans and Peter to complete their term servicing on the City Council until 2022.

Mike Eng said this recall is unethical. Peter and Hans have done nothing wrong to be subject to these recalls. Those people running these recalls have no respect for the residents.

Mike Fong said he is here tonight to support Hans and Peter. They support the 40,000 students at ELAC

Henry Lo said he is here to support Hans and Peter. We need them on our City Council. Monterey Park is the 3rd best place to live in the USA. People care about our community. We need to continue to promote our city. NO on this recall! We need good government.

Bob Gin said he supports Hans and Peter. They work as a team and support the students in the Alhambra School District. We need to keep Hans and Peter on the City Council. He is tired of waiting 25 years for the Market Place and other projects to be completed. They support our library. He thanked them on behalf of the Alhambra School District and the library.

Anthony Wong, Theresa Amador and David Lau spoke to the crowd.

Anthony Wong said we need Hans and Peter. He supports them 100%. They support our city with love. Mitch Ing and Teresa Real Sebastian don’t support our residents. Hans and Peter are good public servants. Monterey Park is the 3rd best city in our nation. NO on the recall! Support Hans and Peter.

David Lau said he served on our City Council for 12 years and served on the Garvey School Board for 9 years. He supports Peter Chan and Hans Liang. They have done a tremendous job. They are honest and have a passion to serve. They are serving our community. NO recall! We are here to celebrate their service in our community to make it better and bigger.  If you love Monterey Park you will keep Hans and Peter to complete their good work.

The recall people need to get 6,000 signatures from Monterey Park registered voters on each petition. They are telling lies and giving out false information. Please ask the right questions and don’t sign their petitions.

Theresa Amador stated the recall people are spreading lies. If you signed their petition and you want to have your signature removed please see the City Clerk’s office to fill out the form to have your signature removed. Hans and Peter are men with great ethics. They support our community. Let’s fight for them together.

Peter Chan and Hans Liang addressed the audience.

Hans said he and Peter work close together. They did the right thing on the Redistricting issue. They worked for the best resolution for all of the residents. They thanked all of the residents for their support. We work for all of the residents. We work for all of us.

Peter thanked all of the elected officials for their comments and support. He is the same Peter Chan as when he was first elected. He is one of the residents of Monterey Park. He serves all of the people. He listens to all of the residents. He carries the issues to the end. He must follow the code regardless. He is happy to be the Councilmember for all of you. We need your help to defeat the recall process. We united the city. The recall divides the city. Don’t sign the petitions based on rumors and lies. They are spreading lies.

Hans and Peter thanked all of the generous sponsors. They reminded the audience that Judy Chu and Mike Eng were trails blazers for Asian elected officials. They helped the younger people to achieve their goals.

Hans Liang and Peter Chan thanked the residents for their support. We do what is right. They thanked everyone for their support.

Peter Chan reminded the residents that Henry Lo is a candidate for District 4.
