Lions Breakfast and Fire Service Day
Lion Club members and Monterey Park Firefighters joined forces at Station 61 on May 18th. They cooked up sausages, scrambled eggs and their grilled their famous pancakes to feed 1,500 hungry residents and their guests.
Longtime residents and new residents shared the tables to enjoy good food and lively conversation.
“Chick-ful-A” joined several friends at the celebration.
Residents explored the Cert Trailer to learn about how to turn off their electricity, water and gas in case of a disaster.
Monterey Park Fire Explorers sat above the Dunk Tank as many young children tried to make them splash in the water.
Young firefighters put on turnout coats and helmets to see if they wanted to join our fire department. They carried a ladder, carried a hose, knocked on a roof and put out a fire. Their parents enjoyed seeing the little ones in action.
The Fire Explorers taught the visitors how to perform Sidewalk CPR and suggested the residents use the Vial of Life to include their health information in case of an emergency. The Vial should be stored in the refrigerator so all rescuers would know where to look for it.
Some of the younger guests looked at the fire fighting gear hung up against the station wall. They were impressed as it looked like their own clothes closets.
Popcorn was another delicious food group requested by most of the visitors.
The Lions Club had the mobile unit that offered free eye exams for the guests.
Residents enjoyed the event.
Young firefighters were trying out the Jeep.
Councilmember Mitch Ing and Theresa Amador enjoyed the event.
The Urban Search and Rescue truck drew a large crowd who checked out all of the gear.
Theresa Amador, former Mayor Anthony Wong and Councilmember Stephen Lam joined with their fellow Lions making the breakfast very successful.
Cotton Candy was another special food added to the day.
Children enjoyed games and face painting.
Sparky the Fire Dog greeted his friends at Station 61.
Children sat in the fire vehicles to see how it fits them.
Monterey Park Police Explorer and Mark Keppel graduate Steven Torres will be attending the U S Air Force Academy Prep School in July. His mother, Herminia Marquez; his father, Bulmaro Magallon and his brother, Kevin Torres, joined him as they visited Station 61. His sister, Rebecca Torres was busy volunteering at another event at Mark Keppel.
Firefighters: Brandon Reyes, Daniel Park, Dominic Garcia and Landry Bailey were joined by Explorers: Justin Jimenez and Daniel Cruz as they show the residents how they rescue people trapped in a car after an accident.
One team used two different cutting tools while the other team used a new cutting tool that works at a faster pace.
Excited residents of all ages watched as they cut up the car and left the pieces to be hauled away after the event.
