Shirley Hwong welcomed everyone to the 37th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration held in Barnes Park in Monterey Park on May 5th. She sang “God Bless America” to the delight of the crowd.
Jesus Ortiz, the Master of Ceremony, welcomed the guests to this annual celebration. Please visit all of the information booths and purchase the delicious Mexican food and beverages. Enjoy!
Esperanza Flores thanked the city and committee for inviting her and her Ballet Folklorico back to this great celebration. It is their seventh year to share their Mexican culture with everyone.
The dancers dressed in various tradition costumes performed ten folk dances for the excited audience.
Mrs. Flores again thanked the City of Monterey Park. She called all of the guests her friends. God bless you!
About 1,000 guests attended this five-hour celebration.
Mayor Peter Chan welcomed all to our Cinco de Mayo celebration. He thanked the staff and volunteers for putting this event together every year. He will be visiting Morelia, Mexico next week and is looking forward to seeing one of our Sister Cities. Enjoy the day!
Mayor Pro Tem Hans Liang welcomed everyone to our Cinco de Mayo celebration. He visited Morelia, Mexico in 2015 and enjoyed the culture of the city. He thanked Jesus Ortiz and the committee for this event.
Councilmember Mitch Ing and Councilmember Stephen Lam were attending their special family events. They send their best wishes.
City Clerk Vince Chang thanked the committee. He and other Chamber members will also be going with Mayor Chan to visit Morelia, Mexico. Enjoy the event!
Assemblymember Ed Chau said he has been attending this event for the last six years. He thanked the citizens for their support. He enjoys celebrating with the residents. He spoke about the history of Cinco de Mayo when in 1862 a small group of Mexican volunteer soldiers successfully fought the French soldiers to free Mexico from the French occupation.
Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian welcomed the guests to Monterey Park to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We embrace all of the cultures in our city.
Adriana Argaiz, Consul for Community Affairs at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles said she is happy to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Monterey Park.
Assemblymember Chau presented proclamations to the city and the committee in the presence of the elected officials and guests.
Ruben Hoyos sang the Mexican National Anthem and Pek Chan sang the US National Anthem. The audience was very respectful and faced both the Mexican flag and the American flag.
Victoria Chavez, Theresa Amador, Adriana Argaiz and Peter Chan posed for a picture in honor of the day.
The event also featured several raffles here the lucky winners stepped up to the stage to collect their winning gifts.
Members of Mariachi Orgullo Jalisciense played and sang many old favorite songs to the enjoyment of the audience.
Members of Grupo Trio Sonora entertained the group with customary folk music. The delighted guests danced to the beat of music in front of the stage.
Victoria Chavez presented the famous “Money Hat” worth $100 to lucky raffle winner Beatriz O., who wore her hat with pride.
Jesus Ortiz thanked all of the donors, volunteers, Gabrielino High School Key Club volunteers and city staff for making this a very successful event.
