SELECT SALMA SOLIS AS ITS “YOUNG CAREERIST FOR 2019”

East Los Angeles-Montebello Business and Professional Women (BPW) selected Salma Solis, who is the Director of Operations for the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel, as its “Young Careerist for 2019.” Solis will be accepting the award at the Wednesday, January 23rd dinner meeting of the East Los Angeles-Montebello BPW at the Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 220 S. Atlantic Blvd., Monterey Park. Networking starts at 4:30 P.M. Dinner starts at 5:00 P.M. and can be ordered from the menu. The meeting is open to the public, but reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling (626) 307-5650 or E-mailing lindalwilson@juno.com.

Solis grew up in Boyle Heights and grew up without a father figure. It was only her mom and two siblings. She is the second oldest of the family. She was the first of the family to finish high school and the first of her family to graduate college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Westwood College. She always wanted to be a positive role model for her younger sister and to be able to help her mother in any way possible.

She has worked at the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley since 2013. She started as a part-time Front Desk Attendant and worked in that position for less than a year when she earned her first promotion. In 2014 she became full-time Area Director of the Club. She worked that position for three years, and in 2017 she earned another promotion to manage and oversee the Club’s Public Housing Site at Estrada Courts for the Boys and Girls Club of the West San Gabriel Valley. Solis was very happy when she received this promotion because it meant that she would be working in her hometown where she grew up. She was excited to be able to have a positive impact on young children that reminded her so much of herself as a young child. Just recently she earned yet another promotion becoming Director of Operations for the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley, where she will manage and oversee the main site in Monterey Park.

The Young Careerist Program of BPW recognizes women and men between the ages of 21 and 35 who have been in their profession or business for at least a year. Candidates first are selected at the local level and then proceed to the District level. That meeting will be Saturday, May 4th. From there they proceed to the State BPW level. That meeting will be Saturday, May 18th in Ontario, CA.
