DR. EMERALD ARCHER TO HELP “EMPOWER WOMEN TO BE BOLD” AT THE JOINT SIERRA MAR/VALLEY SUNSET DISTRICTS BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S WINTER CONFERENCE

Dr. Emerald Archer, Director of the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles, will tell about “Empowering Women to be Bold” at the Joint Winter Conference of the Sierra Mar and Valley Sunset Districts of Business and Professional Women on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Quiet Cannon, 901 Via San Clemente, Montebello. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. with Archer being the morning speaker. Archer’s talk will start at 9:30 A.M. The conference and luncheon is open to all interested people. There is no registration cost for guests, but the cost of the luncheon is $35. Dr. Emerald Archer is the director of the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles. She is a Researcher, Advocate and Leader. Her career is dedicated to studying questions related to gender equity and women’s representation in non-traditional domains. Her goal is to promote and increase gender equality in California and other regions. She leads the Centers efforts related to research, education and policy analysis. She works closely with the California Commission on the Studies of Women and Children and will be sharing information on the upcoming statistics about women in California, which will be released in March for

Women's History Month.
The second speaker will be Catherine “Kathy” Wills, who has quite a history of firsts. She was the first woman detective in the homicide division of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She was a stand in for Nina Foch in “The Ten Commandments” movie in Egypt. She began her spirit of volunteerism as a girl in Minnesota. Wills devotes her time and energy to her community. She was involved in social issues, such as global poverty, homelessness, literacy and as an advocate for the physically disabled.  She is a mentor for at-risk youth. This woman is a recipient of many awards including “Woman of the Year” for Adam Schiff's 29th Congressional District.
Perhaps, she will share a tale or two about her experiences in Egypt!

Sierra Mar and Valley Sunset Districts are based in Southern California and are part of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women.  The organization is a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (NFBPWC) and BPW International. BPW has been advocates for women’s issues for more than 99 years.

The mission of Valley Sunset and Sierra Mar Districts of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women is “to promote and support equity for working women in all phases of their lives and to promote personal empowerment and professional development.” Our objectives are “to advocate on state and national legislative issues of importance to women, to promote personal and professional development for women and to foster connections among women to promote BPW and its members.” Membership is open to both men and women who support this mission and these objectives.
