Rosemead T&F Defeated El Monte, RHS Senior Girls Led the Way
Rosemead – Rosemead High School Panthers boy’s and girl’s varsity track and field teams defeated visiting El Monte on April 15, in Mission Valley League dual meet action.
Rosemead varsity girls easily won 85-50 as Rosemead was led by freshman Sarah Regan and seniors Regina Ly, Elizabeth Lyons and Freesia Quezada. Regan won three events, the 200 meters (28:43), 400 (1:05), was a member of Rosemead’s winning 4X400 meters relay team, and was second in the 110 high hurdles (18.75).
Rosemead’s dual winners were Ly in 100 (13.89) and 4X400 relay, Lyons in the 800 (2:40) and 3200 (13:08) and Freesia Quezada in the 100 high hurdles (17.88) and 300 intermediate hurdles (51.91).
Other Rosemead winners were Van Tran in the high jump (4’6”), Melissa Chhem in the pole vault (8’6”), and Edlin Simental in the 1600 (5:50). Ly also was second in the 200 (28.55) and Tran also was third in the pole vault (7’6”).
Rosemead varsity girls are now 3-0 in league action, and 4-2 overall, El Monte is 0-3 in league.
El Monte was led by winners Danielle Lopez (29’1 ½” in shot put), Lourdes Garcia (76’4 ½” in discus throw), Salina Samario (14’5” in long jump), Connie To (26’11” in triple jump), and its winning 4X100 meters relay team.
Rosemead boys won 81-55 as freshman Kevin Hua was a triple winner. He won the 200 (29.40), 400 (55.38), and was a member of Rosemead’s winning 4×400 relay team.
Other Rosemead winners were junior Justin Johnson (11.73 in 100), Alessandro Quezada (18.5 in 110 high hurdles), Jeff Troeung (47.85 in 300 hurdles), and Rosemead’s 4X100 relay team. Simpson Dinh was second in four events for Rosemead. His marks were 17’7’ in long jump, 36’5” in triple jump, 5’2’ in high jump, and 10’0” in pole vault. Troeung also was second in the 110 high hurdles (18.55), and Quezada was second in the 300 hurdles (48.05). Also, the host Panthers Jonathan Hoang was second in 200 (24.9) and 400 (56.75), and was a member of Rosemead’s winning 4×400 relay team.
El Monte varsity boys team was paced by triple winner Brandon Martinez in 800 (2:09), 1600 (4:54), and 3200 (10:53) and double winners Ralph Espinoza, 41’0” in shot put and 110’11” in discus throw, and Ivan Lopez, 18’3” in long jump and 38’6” in triple jump. Jesse Lopez (5’4”) in high jump, and Steven Barrios (10’5”) in pole vault, also won events.
El Monte’s MVL record is now 0-3, while Rosemead improved to 1-2.
Rosemead also won boys junior varsity and frosh-soph and girls junior varsity meets.

Rosemead High School Senior Elizabeth Lyons was a double winner for the host Panthers as they recently defeated visiting El Monte High School 85-50 in Mission Valley League dual meet competition.
