MONTEREY PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT
On April 26, 2010, at 1246 Hrs, the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to 1883 Ash Drive, in the City of Monterey Park for a residential structure fire.
Monterey Park Fire units with the assistance of the Montebello Fire Department responded to the incident.
Upon arrival Monterey Park Fire units encountered a one-story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing.
Upon further investigation of fire units on scene it was determined that the attic of the structure was well involved in fire. An aggressive fire attack was established with four engine companies, and two ladder trucks that enabled the fire to be brought under control in less than 15 minutes.
During fire ground operations no firefighters or civilians were injured. The estimated cost of damage is $175,000 to the structure and $25,000 in content damage.
The Monterey Park Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit determined that the fire was started by a roofing contractor performing repair work on the roof with an open flame torch, which ignited combustible material in the attic.
