ATTORNEY JACKIE MELVIN TO SPEAK ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE AND HARASSMENT AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO THE  EAST LOS ANGELES-MONTEBELLO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN

Attorney Jackie Melvin will talk about the sexual abuse and harassment against working women and the #MeToo movement at the dinner meeting of the East Los Angeles-Montebello Business and Professional Women on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 220 S. The program and dinner is open to all interested people. Call or E-mail Linda Wilson (626) 307-5650 or lindalwilson@juno.com to make a reservation or for questions.

Attorney Jackie Melvin is the Chair of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women (CFBPW) and the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (NFBPWC) Ad Hoc Committees on Sexual Abuse Against Working Women. Melvin is also a Past President of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women and has served the Federation as its Legislative Chair.

A Quinnipiac Poll in November 2017 found that 60 percent of female voters said they had been sexually harassed. Of those seven out of ten said the harassment occurred in the workplace. Since our inception in 1919 NFBPWC has been known as “The Voice of Working Women.” Melvin says, “We are the progenitor of the current ‘Reckoning’ and growing ‘Culture of Change’ for sexual abuse against working women impacting our society, and we need to exert our powerful voices to make some noise and cause a ruckus… NOW.” Melvin will show attendees how to do this.

Following the speaker, Marjory Hopper, CFBPW Program/Projects Chair, will install the Club’s officers for 2018-19 – Karen Roberson as President, Carol Sullivan as Vice President, Bea Palas as Treasurer and Linda Wilson as Parliamentarian.
