FIRE IN THE 700 BLOCK OF ATLANTIC BOULEVARD

On April 7, 2010 at 0149 Hrs, the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to the

700 block of South Atlantic Blvd. for a smoke investigation at a small commercial strip mall. The first arriving Monterey Park fire unit with assistance from the Monterey Park

Police Department located the fire at 728 South Atlantic Blvd.

With heavy smoke in one business, and smoke showing in adjoining businesses, a full structure response was requested by the first in Engine Company. Monterey Park Fire units with the assistance of Alhambra, Los Angeles County, Montebello and the South

Pasadena Fire Departments responded to the incident.

Firefighters on scene-encountered heavy smoke conditions with a well-established fire in the attic space, which was quickly spreading to adjoining businesses. A second alarm was requested and an aggressive fire attack was established. Seven engine companies, three ladder trucks commanded by Monterey Park Battalion 6 brought the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.

During fire ground operations no firefighters or civilians were injured. The estimated cost of damage is $750, 000 to the structure and $225,000 in content damage.

The Monterey Park Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is currently investigating the fire to determine the cause.
