CURFEW FOR MINORS
On Wednesday, January 20, 2010, the Monterey Park City Council approved an amendment to the Monterey Park Municipal Code regarding curfew for minors.
The curfew was established to protect non-delinquent youth (miners- anyone under age 18) from crime and to protect the community from and reduce the opportunities for juvenile crime.
The curfew hours are 10:00 p.m. to sunrise the following day 7 days a week and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday when school is in session (summer school is excluded). There Inflatable Water Slide are exceptions to the law including minors accompanied by a responsible adult and minors’ school not being in session.
Minors violating the law will be issued a citation; a $100 fine for a first offense, $200 for a second offense, and $500 for a third offense that occur within a one-year period.
The law takes effect on February 19, 2010, but the Police Department will observe a 10-day grace period and will not enforce the law until March 1st. Persons that are found violating the law between February 19 and March 1 will receive a warning.
