Rosemead HS Girls Basketball Wins 7th Straight, 11th Ranked
Rosemead – Rosemead High School Lady Panthers girls varsity basketball team was undefeated in two home games, defeating South El Monte Lady Eagles by a score of 69-21 on Jan. 27, and Mt. View Lady Vikings by a score of 60-24 on Jan. 29, to remain undefeated in Mission Valley League (MVL) action at 6-0 and improve to 15-4 overall.
The Lady Panthers are ranked 11th in CIF Southern Section 3A poll.
MVL leading scorer and last year’s MVL Player of the Year, senior Evelyn Ramirez scored 13 points and had six rebounds and six steals in the first half to help lead Rosemead to a 37-15 lead. Ramirez finished as the leading scorer in the game with 22 points.
Rosemead freshman Melody Gauthier Inflatable Water Slide scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Lady Panthers. Senior Jeanne Tran added seven points and six steals and other players scoring for Rosemead were Sydney Hua and Lily Che with four points each, Ivy Luong and Christine Giang with three points each, and scoring two points each were Arianne Hernandez, Kim Hong, Amanda Iglesias, Elizabeth Lyons and Yvette Orduno.
Leading scorers for South El Monte were Jessica Hernandez with six points and Jasmine Vargas with five points. Belinda Paco and Vanessa Alvarez each scored three points, and Bianca Acosta and Alejandra Cedeno scored two points each to help the Lady Eagles.
Rosemead remained undefeated in MVL with its win against Mt. View as balanced scoring and pressure defense helped Rosemead earn a 32-12 halftime lead.
Ramirez again led Rosemead in scoring with 16 points, and had five assists and five steals. Gauthier scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists and is leading the MVL in the assists category for Rosemead.
Tran added nine points, and had six rebounds and five steals. Also scoring for Rosemead was Che and Hua with six points each, Giang with five points, and Hernandez and Hong with four points.
Mt. View was led by Pricilla Alcaraz with eight points and Gloria Aguirre with seven points. Other Lady Vikings scoring were Lorraine Gonzalez with six points, Jasmin Villalobos with two points and Flor Garcia with one point.
