Assemblymember Ed Chau Statement on Governor’s Budget Proposal
On January 10 Assemblymember Ed Chau (D – Monterey Park) released the following statement upon announcement of the Governor’s 2017-2018 State Budget proposal:
“For the past few years, Assembly Democrats have made it a priority to find common ground in crafting a responsible budget; so, I appreciate the approach that Governor Brown is taking with this proposal and his commitment to safeguard some of our most important accomplishments in recent years.
“The Governor’s proposal includes increases to education, which is a priority that we share. We will continue to focus our efforts on developing solutions to address transportation and housing issues, which remain a priority for Assembly Democrats. One area of particular interest to me is ensuring that our state’s cybersecurity infrastructure is safe and secure, so I am pleased to see that the administration is including $9.9 million to strengthen the information technology security operations of various departments across the State, and look forward to further discussions on how we can work together to do more.
“While the Governor’s proposed budget does not necessarily take into account federal actions that could impact our State’s budget, I was glad to hear that he is committed to protecting the rights of all people in thoughtful and creative ways and look forward to working on solutions that maximize our State resources more effectively to accomplish our policy goals.”
