Mission Statement: CalRTA’s mission is to protect and advocate for retired and active educators’ pensions and other retirement benefits; and to support education in our communities.

Core Purpose: “To enhance and protect the benefits of retired educators.”

Major Goal: “To be the dominant, authoritative voice for all retired educators.”

Advocacy: CalRTA advocates for all California educators because they deserve to retire with security and dignity.

Division 31 supports the following school districts: Bassett USD, Downey USD, East Whittier City SD, El Rancho USD, Hacienda-La Puente USD, La Habra City SD, Little Lake City SD, Los Nietos SD, Lowell Joint SD, Montebello USD, Mountain View SD, Norwalk-La Mirada USD, Rowland USD, South Whittier SD, Whittier City SD, Whittier Union High SD, Cerritos Community College, Rio Hondo Community College, Whittier College, La Puente Valley ROP, Southeast Cerritos ROP, Southeast Norwalk ROP.

Community Events

California Retired Teachers Association “CalRTA” Area VIII, Whittier Division 31 welcomes retired & active teachers and friends of education to its meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Elks Lodge #1258, 13620 E. Whittier Blvd. Whittier, CA.

Theme: Recognizing our Sweethearts of Teaching. Members who are 90 years and older.

The Program is Marva X speaking about Honor Flight, a non-profit organization that provides veterans with free trips to Washington DC to visit the War Memorials. The Honor Flight Network has transported 75,000 Veterans to visit his or her memorial.

Business meeting begins at 11:00 a.m., luncheon at 12:00 noon -menu: Chicken Penne Pasta with Creamy Sundried Tomato & Artichoke Sauce, Salad, rolls, Vegetable, Lemon Bars, coffee, iced tea. Cost $18.00. Call Margery Barnings, 562-861-7693 to make a reservation.
