Centennial Reflections Dinner

Monterey Park Mayor Mitch Ing, Vice Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian, Councilmembers Peter Chan and Hans Liang, City Clerk Vince Chang, City Treasurer Joseph Leon and Dave Barron shared in the festivities in front of the 100th Birthday cake at the dinner held at Langley Center on October 22nd.

Centennial Mayor Mitch Ing, Vice Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian, Councilmember Peter Chan, City Clerk Vince Chang, City Treasurer Joseph Leon joined Dave Barron and Elizabeth Yang in the toast to our hometown. Mayor Ing introduced our former Mayors Lily Lee Chen, Betty Tom Chu and David Lau. He also thanked the many service clubs who support Monterey Park.

Mayor Ing gave a short history on the city’s past 100 years when 455 residents voted to incorporate the city in 1916. He praised some of the early city fathers and mothers: Mr. Bruggemeyer, and Mr. Snyder and Mrs. Scudder for helping to make our city a success. If Monterey Park had not existed we would not be here as family and friends. He has hope for the future generations.

He welcomed all and introduced the many generous sponsors and donors. He thanked sponsors, donors, the committee and the city staff for this wonderful birthday party.

Vice Mayor Real Sebastian welcomed all for coming to this special event. Enjoy your evening!

JD de Perio began the entertainment as he sang Tony Bennett’s theme song “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”.

The guests headed to the buffet line for a delicious dinner of beef or turkey with birthday cake. Tiffany’s, a local business in town, located at 2099 S. Atlantic Blvd. Suite J, catered the event.

Teresa Real Sebastian posed for pictures with her volunteers. They are sometimes called her Christmas elves.

Dave Barron displayed the Centennial T-shirts that are for sale along with the Centennial coins. They are considered souvenirs of our first 100 years.

Members of the Grace Ge Dance Group entertained the guests to the delight of their family and friends.

William and Sylvia Wong; Ron and Sharon Yorizane and Eugene Amimoto and Norine Lee danced the Rumba. One of the many dances enjoyed over the last 100 years.

Jacob Roman performed many of Elvis Presley’s classic hits as the guests danced to the beat.

Long time residents received Centennial coins as part of the celebrations.

Lucky lottery winners received several great door prizes donated by residents and local businesses.

Dave Barron thanked all for coming today to greet old friends and meet new friends. He thanked the committee for spending four months planning this special event. He thanked all of the generous donors and sponsors.

Over 300 guests enjoyed the party. Student volunteers from Mark Keppel High School helped make the evening a success.
