Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Presents Veterans Day Programs
Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library will remember and honor veterans with several programs in November. On Sunday, November 6 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room, a program on World War II history will feature the exhibit “Remembering Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary;” stories of those who served during WWII; and guest speaker Ernest Miller-a food historian, chef, and educator- will present a talk on the history of WWII food rationing in America. The program is co- sponsored with the Historical Society of Monterey Park.
The exhibit “Remembering Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary” will feature WWII posters, photos, post cards and newspapers from the collection of exhibit organizer Pedro Chan, Ph.D. The public can view the exhibit November 3-30 in the display cases located on the first floor of the library.
Filmmaker E. Samantha Cheng will introduce and screen her documentary film “Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese” on Sunday, November 20 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room. The film, a tribute to the Chinese communities in the Mississippi Delta and their contributions during WWII, follows the history and impact of the Chinese community in the Mississippi region with archival images of the rural communities where families lived and includes interviews with the Mississippi Delta Chinese American World War II veterans and the impact of the war in the delta region. The filmmaker will hold a question and answer session after the film screening.
