Oldies But Goodies Concert
Former Monterey Park Mayor David Lau welcomed the guests to this special concert presented by the San Gabriel Valley Entrepreneur Lions Club held at Barnes Park Amphitheatre on September 25th.
He sang “God Bless America” and welcomed the guests to this special concert held to celebrate Monterey Park’s 100th Birthday.
Tonight we will enjoy the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s performed in both English and Chinese as well as Martial Arts exhibitions. Please enjoy the concert.
Danny So and David Lau were the Masters of Ceremonies. They asked the audience sing “Happy Birthday to Monterey Park”! They introduced the performers to the audience.
David Lau also serenaded the guests in both English and Chinese.
Councilmember Peter Chan was introduced to the guests. He welcomed everyone to Monterey Park. He thanked the Club and the entertainers for this performance. Enjoy the great show!
David Lau said the city is 100 years old and has 100 more years to go. It is a safe and secure city.
Members of Shi Yang Yang Dance Troup played the drums as the first opening act.
They also performed several folk dances in colorful customes and modern dances too.
Cici Lau, President of the Club and a talented performer sang several songs that included “Greatest Love Of All”, “I Will Follow Him” and “Stand By Me”.
Dr. Jack Fu displayed his Martial Art skills as an 8th Degree Black Belt to the delight of the guests. He told the audience that he supports Monterey Park.
He also performed a magic trick cutting a $1 bill held by two volunteers in half with chopsticks.
David Lau presented two proclamations to Dr. Jack Fu from Congressmember Judy Chu and Supervisor Hilda Solis for his wonderful service to the community in the presence of his son, Cici Lau and Dr. Ming-Dong Li.

Dr. Ming-Dong Li displayed his Martial Art skills to the enjoyment of the audience.
Cici Lau sang the “Twist” as the audience joined her in the dance.
Evelyn and Audrey Xu, a mother and daughter team, shared their dancing skills with the guests.
Rico Sam performed songs in Chinese as the audience call out responses to his songs.
Barbara Ng sang love songs in Chinese in honor of the full moon.
Issac Tse crooned “You Raise Me Up” and “My Way” as part of this special performance.
Cici Lau sang “La Bamba” as the audience joined her by dancing to the beat.
David Lau thanked Cici Lau and the talent for this wonderful show.
Danny So held a special drawing to win a Shark. He, David and Cici Lau called out numbers to see if they could match the numbers on the contestants’ driver’s licenses.
The lucky winner posed with her Shark and shared the stage with David and Cici Lau, Barbara Ng and Rico Sam.
David and Cici Lau thanked the audience for sharing this evening with them as they thanked them for coming to this event.
