Creators of America’s first Computer Science Schools to bring renowned program to Garvey School District
Beginning in August 2016 Garvey School District will offer a Computer Science Immersion Program for all TK through grade 6 students at four schools: Bitely, Dewey, Hillcrest, and Rice Elementary Schools. The District’s Computer Science Schools will be among the first in LA County in using digital learning to help students develop Coding skills as well as a wide range of math and language skills. The immersion program is provided through a partnership with Code To The Future, the company recognized by the White House as the nation’s leader in Computer Science education.
On Saturday, June 25, 2016 Garvey School District hosted a press conference to showcase the Computer Science Program. The creators of Code To The Future visited Garvey School District to demonstrate how the District is using Minecraft as a cutting- edge digital learning tool. Students from the four participating schools hosted a Minecraft exhibit where they used Minecraft to design a city. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the District’s new initiative.
