SIERRA MAR AND VALLEY SUNSET DISTRICTS OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN MEET TO DISCUSS THE MULTIGENERATIONAL WORKFORCE

Monterey Park, CA—Sierra Mar and Valley Sunset Districts of Business and Professional Women (BPW) will meet starting at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, January 23rd at the Ramada Inn, 1089 Santa Anita, South El Monte. In the morning Dionne Espinoza, Ph.D. and Associate Professor of Chicano Studies and Liberal Studies and Coordinator and Advisor of Minor and Certificate Programs in Women’s and Gender Studies at California State University will talk about the “Future of Feminism.” Espinoza was raised in the San Gabriel Valley cities of Alhambra and El Monte. She received her B.A. with honors in English Languages and Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. in English with emphasis on postcolonial and feminist theory and women studies from Cornell University. She has taught at UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, and, more recently, was a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her research and teaching are centered on topics of Chicana/Latina studies, comparative women of color, cultural studies, feminism and women’s movements.

At lunch Valley Sunset members will present a program on “Famous Women of the 20th Century.” In the afternoon Maryann Wesson from Sierra Mar District will talk about “The Multigenerational Workforce.” Attendees are being asked to bring basic needs items such as food, clothing, motel vouchers, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. for the El Monte/South El Monte Emergency Resources Association. A special guest and speaker will be Janet Ramsey, President of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women. She will talk about the future of the State Federation.

The conference is open to all interested people in the area. Registration is $20. For those who want to have lunch, there is an additional charge of $25.
