Assemblymember Chau Honors Women of the Year
On March 18th Mayor Peter Chan welcomed everyone to the Service Club. We are proud to have this event to honor women in Monterey Park. He introduced Assemblymember Ed Chau, who represents his constituency.
Assemblymember Ed Chau welcomed everyone to the 2016 Women’s History Month Leadership Award Ceremony. He introduced Monterey Park Councilmember Hans Liang, Alhambra School Boardmember Adele Andrade-Stadler, Alhambra Councilmember Barbara Messina, Temple City Unified School District Superintendent Kathy Perini, former San Gabriel Mayor Harry Baldwin and San Gabriel Police Chief Dave Lawton to the audience.
He is happy to honor strong women as he presented eight outstanding women and one community organization during the ceremony. March is National Women’s History Month. He recalled in 1980 that President Carter called for a National Women’s History Week that has been extended to a month.
The Legislation is happy to support women including increasing wages. Women are making great strides. Women work everyday to make life better. You help us to make the community better.
The awards presented were in recognition of distinguished service to the 49th Assembly District in the areas of community service, business, public safety, education, historic preservation, non-profit sector, and women’s empowerment.
Annabelle Chu, Acute Psychiatric Registered Nurse, Community Volunteer was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her great service to the community as a nurse and a Citizenship Teacher in Monterey Park. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau.
Charlene Lin Ung, Engineering Manager, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory was honored for her dedication to her family and her great community service by Assemblymember Ed Chau. He said she has also written a book “Nam Moi” about her family’s escape from Vietnam. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with her family.
Coronne Jacob, Captain, Los Angeles County Sheriff Department was honored for her advancement in the Sheriff’s Department and her policing service to the community. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with her husband and some of her staff.
Dee Moreno, Instructional Resource Specialist, La Rosa Elementary School, Co-Founder, CS First Club was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her dedication to her students and providing them with additional computer knowledge that will provide them with a better future. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Chau with her family.
Gay Q. Yuen, Ph.D, President, Chinese American Museum, Professor, California State University, Los Angeles was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her dedication to education that provides cross-cultural understanding and educational equity for people of color. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with her family.
Nickie Oh, Teacher, La Rosa Elementary School, Co-Founder, CS First Club was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her dedication to her students and providing them with additional computer knowledge that will provide them with a better future. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Chau with her family and friends.
Sally Baldwin, Asian Youth Center, Advisory Board was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her many years of devotion to her students and the youth of the San Gabriel Valley. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with her husband, Harry Baldwin and family friends.
Valarie Gomez, CEO, YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau for her many years of dedicated service to the families who participate at the YMCA. She also is involved in the Alhambra Rotary. She accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with her daughter and Alhambra Councilmember Barbara Messina.
Soroptimist International of Alhambra, San Gabriel and San Marino was honored by Assemblymember Ed Chau of their dedication to empowering women and girls to achieve their full potential. Club President Cynthia Jarvis accepted this honor from Assemblymember Ed Chau with other club members.
“I am proud to recognize and honor these eight exceptional women and Soroptimist International of Alhambra, San Gabriel and San Marino for the leadership, dedication and service they have provided to their communities, which has improved the quality of life for so many people in the 49th Assembly District,” said Assemblymember Ed Chau. “These remarkable women are an inspiration to us all.”
