SOROPTIMISTS “LIVE YOUR DREAM” AWARDS

Soroptimist International of Alhambra, San Gabriel, San Marino held an Awards

Luncheon  on March 15, 2016, at which they honored individuals through the presentation of the Live Your Dream Award. This award is given to a woman who is the head of the household and is attending school (trade or college) to improve her employment status by gaining additional education and skills.

This year, awards were presented to women who have demonstrated their determination to overcome numerous obstacles and achieve their goal of acquiring the necessary education that will enable them to be self-supporting and productive members of their communities. The honorees were Jasmine Ceron, Janet Rodriguez and Evelyn Segura. All are currently enrolled at East Los Angeles College (ELAC).

Jasmine Ceron will receive an AA degree in Administration of Justice in June, 2016.

She will transfer to a four year college to earn a degree in Political Science and eventually enroll in law school. Her goal is to work in the justice system as a judge.

Janet Rodriguez is enrolled in courses that will assist her in achieving her goal of becoming a registered nurse. She will complete her work at ELAC in June, 2019.

The next step she will take is to enroll in a nursing program at a state college. Her area of focus is working with hospice patients.

Evelyn Segura is enrolled in several prerequisite courses that will enable her to prepare for entering the nursing program. Her ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse. She will complete her studies in June, 2018.

Each of the honorees received a monetary award that will enable them to continue their studies. They also received certificates in recognition of their efforts from Clayton Arick, representing State Senator Ed Hernandez, and from the San Marino City Council.
