Suspect Arrested for Orange Avenue Attempted Kidnapping

On December 3, 2015 at approximately 7:10 a.m. the Monterey Park Police Department responded to an attempted kidnapping of a 16 year old female victim who was walking to school in the 600 block of N. Orange Avenue in the City of Monterey Park. When the victim attempted to walk away, the suspect exited the vehicle and grabbed the victim from behind and attempted to force her into his vehicle. The victim screamed and was released. The suspect got back into the vehicle and fled.

A press release was distributed in hopes to gain the community’s assistance in identifying the suspect and or the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle saw the news story and contacted the police department and informed detectives that his vehicle had been stolen in the early morning hours of December 3, 2015. The vehicle was entered into the Statewide Stolen Vehicle System.

On December 5 at approximately 3 p.m., officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department located the stolen vehicle in the 4700 block of Kenmore Ave. in the City of Baldwin Park occupied by a male driver and female passenger. Baldwin Park Police detained them and contacted Monterey Park Police. After further investigation by Monterey Park Police Detectives, the male was identified as the outstanding suspect in the attempted kidnapping.

The suspect has been identified as Saul Villa Jr., 22 years of age of Baldwin Park, Calif. Villa was booked for suspicion of attempted kidnapping and possession of a stolen vehicle. Villa is currently being housed at the Monterey Park Jail. His bail is set at $130,000. Villa is due to be arraigned on December 8, 2015 at the Alhambra Superior Court.

After further investigation the female was determined not to be involved in the crimes.
