AUTUMN EMBERS

AUTUMN EMBERS

By Mona Raskin

Throughout the month of October stores were filled with Halloween decorations and costumes.  At one time our neighborhood would be lit up for the possible Halloween creatures to venture out searching the community for some tasty treats.  Well, we wonder what has happened to these special visitors.  In fact, Monterey Park’s Barnes Park usually would host a special Halloween festival, in which, awards for outstanding costumes including other fun activities would be all be part of the program! Well, this year, the Parks and Recreation Department were not given the okay or the funds for the Halloween Festival!  Oh yes, times are surely changing along with a bit of nostalgia!

Well perhaps November will be the month that we can still enjoy what is left of a pleasant autumn!

First on the list is to convey our congratulations to the newly elected Garvey School Board members, Irene Flores, Tony Ramos and John Yuen!!

Autumn 1

Second special event that I would truly like to recommend while the weather is fair and pleasant is to take an outdoor venture to visit an interesting retired community within the city of Claremont. Inhabitants (former Christian missionaries) host their annual Thanksgiving event, donned in Pilgrim outfits. This Inflatable Water Slide event includes refreshments; a play that is usually is a reenactment of our country’s first Thanksgiving! Before you leave be sure to check out their interesting display of items from around the world, this event will take place on November 14th & 15th.

Another special event that I personally hope to attend is to a special concert in which my grand daughter, Laura Bedol will perform. It will take place at the Colburn School of Music and Art at 7:30pm on the 15th of November

Before we know it, autumn will start to fade away. By next month, winter will begin. That month, I’m sure, most of us will be busy shopping and more shopping. That is if our economy will allow us to do so! Oh well! Till then have a happy thanksgiving, anyway!!
