American Legion National Commander Charles Hill visits Southern California
“All Hands on Deck”! The American Legion’s first National Commander from Florida will visit Southern California from December 9th to the 14th with many special events planned throughout the area. The highlight for District 18 and Commander George “Bucky” Curtis will be a special dinner honoring the National Commander on Saturday, December 12th, at East Pasadena Post 280, 179 N. Vinedo, Pasadena. Tickets for the event are $25.00 each or $40.00 a couple and an over-flow crowd is anticipated to meet and greet this retired Navy captain who calls on members to engage a new generation in the greatest war-time veterans organization, The American Legion.
Commander Hill attended Buckeye Boys State in 1967 and was commissioned from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1972 having earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a History major. He served 19 of the next 24 years on sea duty and retired in 1996 as a Captain to Jacksonville, Florida, where he lives today. Commander Hill is a 27-year Legionnaire, a life member and three-time Post Commander of American Legion Post 316 in Atlantic Beach, Florida. He attended the National American Legion College in 2000, was an instructor in 2001, and was Department Commander for the State of Florida for the 2002-2003 Legion year.
District 18 Commander Curtis will conduct the regular monthly meeting and annual Christmas Party on Friday, December 18th, 7:30 p.m., at Arcadia American Legion Post 247, 615 E. Live Oak, Arcadia. Dinner precedes the meeting and dinner reservations are requested by calling the Post at 626-445-4822.
