The City of Monterey Park will hold a grand opening and dedication of the city’s first compressed natural gas fueling station on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

The public-access fueling facility will support the operation of Monterey Park’s clean, cost efficient compressed natural gas (CNG) buses as well as serve passenger vehicles, parking shuttles, taxis, fleet vehicles and other area CNG needs.

Natural gas is one of the cleanest burning alternative fuels available today. Natural gas offers significant environmental, energy security, and economic benefits, producing lower tailpipe emissions and greenhouse gases than diesel or gasoline.

Natural gas vehicles (NGVs) can have an immediate and positive impact on the issues of air quality, U.S. energy security and public health. Here are some key benefits of using natural gas as a transportation fuel: NGVs are some of the cleanest vehicles in commercial production today, and produce only 5-10 percent of the emissions allowable even by today’s most stringent standards. NGVs produce 20-30 percent less greenhouse gases than gasoline or diesel powered vehicles.

The station project was developed through SoCalGas compression Services Tariff and partially funded by grants from the California Energy Commission and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Review Committee (MSRC).
