Rosemead HS Runners Place High at Huge Mt. SAC Invite
Rosemead High School boys and girls cross country teams once again ran well in the heat against very good competition on Oct. 23, at Mt. San Antonio College (SAC) Invite at what’s said to be the largest high school cross country invitational in the USA and possibly, the world, reported Rosemead Head Coach Fidel Dominguez.
Rosemead’s girl’s varsity continues to surprise the competition by defeating a few ranked teams yet again, stated Dominguez. “Twice we’ve run faster than CIF Southern Section number 11 ranked Brea Olinda. And, we had to compete in a league meet about 24 hours earlier, so our runners did run well considering that.”
Leading the way for the Panthers as usual was two-time Mission Valley League Runner of the Year senior Brittnie Munoz, who placed 14th in 19:19 with sophomore Kelly Luc in 50th place at 20:43 to help Rosemead finish 12th among 19 schools entered in the race. Rosemead’s team time for its five fastest runners was 1:44.24.
Leading runners for Rosemead’s boy’s varsity were seniors Chris Le (17:50) and Gilbert Ramirez (17:56) and junior Johny Leung (18:08).
Rosemead’s boy’s sophomore team earned second place led by Kelvin Zhong in fifth place (18:16), Abraham Esparza in ninth (18:21), and Daniel Moreno in 10th (18:22).
Rosemead’s freshmen boy’s team placed third and was led by David Moreno in sixth place (18:13), Alex Li in 12th (19:19), Arturo Serrano in 21st (20:00), and Alessandro Quezada in 22nd (20:23).
The top three teams in each race won team and individual awards and were recognized when the awards were presented on a podium.
