STRUCTURE FIRE

On October 26, 2009 at 15:40 Hrs, the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to

Monterey Highlands Elementary School, in the City of Monterey Park for a vegetation fire. En-route to the incident the response was upgraded to a brush fire with structures threatened.

Monterey Park Fire units with the assistance of Alhambra, Los Angeles County and Montebello Fire Departments responded to the incident.

Upon arrival Monterey Park Fire units encountered a quick moving vegetation fire that spread uphill towards a single family residence at 1891 Copa Way. The fire spread from the vegetation to the structure causing extensive damage. An aggressive fire attack was established with seven engine companies, and two ladder trucks that enabled the fire to be brought under control in less than 20 minutes.

During fire ground operations no firefighters or civilians were injured. The estimated cost of damage is $250,000 to the structure and $50,000 in content damage.

The Monterey Park Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is currently investigating the fire to determine the cause.
